It is supplied as a multi-component reference material for benchtop study of phospholipid chemistry, protease enzymology, and emulsion behavior.


Each defined constituent belongs to a distinct area of in vitro chemistry. Riboflavin is the biosynthetic precursor of the flavin cofactors FMN and FAD and is a widely used photochemical and spectrophotometric reference compound, with characteristic absorbance and fluorescence maxima employed to calibrate instrumentation and to examine flavoenzyme oxidoreduction chemistry in cell-free systems. Lecithin is an amphiphilic phospholipid mixture used in the laboratory to prepare liposomes and model membrane bilayers and to examine emulsification, micelle formation, critical micelle concentration, and interfacial tension. Bromelain is a cysteine protease characterized in vitro by casein, azocasein, and chromogenic substrate hydrolysis assays, and is used to study protease kinetics, pH and temperature stability profiles, and inhibitor screening.


The botanical extracts contribute characterizable secondary metabolite profiles that are commonly used as chromatographic marker compounds — asiaticoside and madecassoside from Centella asiatica, tanshinones and salvianolic acids from Salvia miltiorrhiza, baicalin and baicalein from Scutellaria baicalensis, and apigenin glycosides from Matricaria recutita. These markers make the solution useful as a practice matrix for extract fingerprinting and peak-identification method development.


Typical laboratory applications include use as a reference and system-suitability sample in reversed-phase liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UV-Vis spectrophotometry, colorimetric and fluorimetric enzyme activity assays, phospholipid and surfactant characterization by dynamic light scattering and zeta potential measurement, and stability and compatibility testing of multi-component aqueous mixtures. Handling and storage should follow standard laboratory practice for aqueous biological preparations, including refrigerated storage, protection from light, and aliquoting to limit freeze-thaw cycles.
