Lipo-C is a multi-component aqueous research formulation supplying eight amino acids, water-soluble vitamins, and enzymatic cofactors at defined concentrations in a single matrix. It is prepared for laboratory use as a reference material in analytical method development, compound stability and solubility characterization, and cofactor-dependent in vitro enzyme assays. The components are those grouped in biochemical literature under the lipotropic classification, combined with three water-soluble B vitamins.


Active Ingredients (per mL)


L-Carnitine (100mg/mL) — A zwitterionic quaternary ammonium compound. Characterized in biochemical reference literature as the acyl-group carrier of the carnitine palmitoyltransferase system. Commonly used as a reference standard in acylcarnitine profiling and mass spectrometry method development.


Arginine (20mg/mL) — A basic proteinogenic amino acid and the characterized substrate of nitric oxide synthase. Used in enzymology reference work on the urea cycle, and as a solubility and ionic strength modifier in mixed aqueous preparations.


Methionine (25mg/mL) — A sulfur-containing essential amino acid and the precursor to S-adenosylmethionine, the principal methyl group donor in one-carbon transfer chemistry. A reference compound in transmethylation and transsulfuration pathway analysis.


Inositol (50mg/mL) — Supplied as the myo- isomer, a carbocyclic polyol forming the headgroup of the phosphoinositide class of membrane phospholipids. Used as a reference standard in polyol chromatographic separation and in phosphoinositide chemistry.


Choline (50mg/mL) — A quaternary amine and the headgroup of phosphatidylcholine, one of the principal structural phospholipids of the cell membrane. Referenced in phospholipid biosynthesis chemistry, including the Kennedy pathway, and in one-carbon transfer studies.


Vitamin B5, Dexpanthenol (25mg/mL) — The alcohol analog of pantothenic acid, converting to pantothenate in aqueous solution. Pantothenate forms the structural core of coenzyme A, the acyl group carrier in a wide range of characterized enzymatic acyl transfer reactions.


Vitamin B6, Pyridoxine (25mg/mL) — Precursor to pyridoxal-5-phosphate, the cofactor for more than one hundred characterized enzymes, including the aminotransferase and decarboxylase families. A standard cofactor addition in in vitro enzyme assay preparation.


Vitamin B12, Cyanocobalamin (1mg/mL) — A cobalt-centered corrinoid, and the cobalamin form most resistant to photodegradation, which is why it is generally selected for formulation work. The characterized cofactor of methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, and a common reference standard in cobalamin assay work.

The eight components span several distinct molecular classes — zwitterionic amino acids, quaternary amines, cyclic polyols, corrinoids, and pyridine derivatives — which makes the formulation a useful single matrix for multi-class compatibility testing, forced degradation profiling, pH-dependent solubility characterization, and chromatographic separation method development.
